You can find Germantown inside Montgomery County, Maryland. As of 2013, it had a population of over 90,000 people. This made it the third most populated city in all of Maryland. It follows behind Baltimore and Columbia. Germantown hasn’t been incorporated as a city. Instead, it has be designated as an urbanized census-designated place. If it was to become a city, it would be the second biggest in the state, following Baltimore.
Between 25 and 30 miles away, you can find Washington D.C. It’s also a part of the Washingtonian metro area. Originally, Germantown was divided into a downtown and six town villages known as Churchill Village, Clopper’s Mill Village, Gunners Lake Village, Kingsview Village, Middlebrook Village and Neelsville Village.
Before the American Civil War, there were no public schools located in Germantown. The children were instead home schooled. Then in 1868, a one-room schoolhouse was constructed along Maryland Route 118, not too far from Black Rock Road. The school accommodated children from Germantown and Darnestown.
During the Civil War, there was a lot of division and resentment within the town of Georgetown. A lot of the German residents weren’t for slavery, and had sons that were fighting on behalf of the Union Army. The English residents, however, had slaves, and even those who didn’t still had sons that fought for the Confederate Army.
Today’s Germantown is a thriving urban society with a mixed population. There’s plenty to see and do here. Those who like fresh produce can head over to the Lancaster County Dutch Market to whip up a family meal. There’s also farms here, like Butler’s Orchard. Then for a little fun, you can take the family to Clearspring Park, Monkey Joe’s Germantown, Valley Mill Kayak School or Great Seneca Stream Valley Park. Performances are also held at BlackRock Center for the Arts.
It’s an excellent area for those who are looking for a lifestyle that’s fast-paced, but settled enough for the modern family.
KNC Granite was contacted by a couple that owned a house in Germantown. They were looking to have it remodeled with granite stone counters and fireplace surround. The granite was to be installed in both the kitchen and two bathrooms. Both of the bathrooms had damaged flooring that needed replacing, so they selected a nice color from our line of marble stones.
The contractors fro KNC Granite came to the house to take measurements and analyze what needed to be done. A quote was provided based on the stones they desired. Once they agreed to the estimate, they came to our warehouse to select the stone slabs they wanted to installed by our contractors.
When the couple saw the work we did to their kitchen and bathroom, they were amazed. The outcome was done meticulously and quickly. We strive hard to ensure all slabs are fabricated perfectly to suit the application. This is why we always fabricate our own counter and tile for our customers to ensure a proper fit. The end result was great as always and we were even referred to other homeowners they knew.
The contractors at KNC Granite brought all the materials needed to complete the job. Our professionals arrived to the property with the materials and immediately started removing everything out. This included taking out the countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms and the surrounds for the fireplace in the dining room. The floors were also pulled up in both of the bathrooms, which would have the marble tile installed.
After the removal of the old materials, we started installing the new stone slabs. The customer chose to have a dark gray granite stone installed for the kitchen counters. The bathroom granite slabs were to be a light gray and the floors had a white marble tile with light gray veins.
The project was done fairly quickly and was completed within three days. What took the longest were laying down the tile in the two bathrooms, which were pretty large. The kitchen was medium-sized, but there was a lot of countertop space to cover. The fireplace surround was a quick install.
